#89 Riding my bike between work and home
I'm now riding my bike from home to work each day (well, most days) now. It's a great opportunity to take in the scenes in the neighbourhoods along the way and have some time to think. Occasionally, I inadvertently join a bike-bus along the way.
Here is the general bike route I take:
- Erskineville Road continuing on to Swanston Street
- Left on to Newton Street
- Right on to Renwick Street
- Left on to Mitchell Road (watching out for pedestrians here)
- Right on to Henderson Road
- Left on to Wyndam Street and up the hill (needs a higher gear)
- Turn left up on to Rosehill Street (it's a quieter street with fewer pedestrians)
- Down through the small park, then left on to Gibbons Street
- Up the hill past Redfern Station, across Lawson Street and continuing on Gibbons Street to Regent Street (lots of broken glass here)
- Left on to Cleveland Street (requires many crossings) until the first gate at Prince Alfred Park
- Across Prince Alfred Park to Chalmers Street, then left
- Continuing on Chalmers Street until Foveaux/Chalmers/Elizabeth Street intersection at Central Station (busy with pedestrian traffic here)
- Taking this intersection carefully and continuing North along Elizabeth Street
- Right on to Reservoir Street
- Left in to Hands Lane after waving at everyone at Single Origin
- Right on to Foster Street, Surry Hills
- Arrive at work!
It's approximately 4km and takes me 20 minutes with many stops at lights on the way.

I also work in Surry Hills but ride from Newtown. I suggest an alternative route...Try taking Wilson st (at the top of Erskineville rd) for a change... Wilson st its great for bicycles!
