#79 Organic Buyers Group
We started a group a little while back to make organic food more affordable. We also wanted to make it a social event.
So we started the Organic Buyers Group. The first one is in Kirribilli, then Randwick and Leichhardt. We're always happy to help people establish a new one.
The Group is entirely volunteer run so we buy and sell organic food at wholesale price to our members at no markup!
And because we do it in a community space, we all get to know each other. People who have been living in the same neighbourhood for years get to meet people they haven't even bumped into. And people who are new to the suburb get to meet people with similar values. It's great when somebody brings in some spare produce from their garden to share!
Ultimately we want to create enough demand under the one banner to be able to be able to approach some of the 2000 (non-organic) farmers in Sydney Basin and support them in converting to organics.

Good on you! We just had a fantastic Buyers Group pickup today. Record numbers and great box of food. It's really satisfying to see everyone pitch in and make it happen.

how excellent!! i've been looking for a food co-op outside of the Uni's. i'll be signing up soon.
It would be great to have an organic coop out here in the underprivileged east ;-)
I mostly buy organic but its expensive and I'd rather shop using my own containers where possible, not packets. Bulk tea etc is always fresher anyway..
