#197 Organic Fruit and Vegetable Co-op at work

I'm the Studio Co-ordinator at Digital Eskimo and part of my job is to keep the office kitchen fully stocked with organic produce. One day I asked around to see if anyone else wanted to chuck in for a bigger mixed box of organic fruit and veg from our supplier and found there was plenty of interest.

Each week I send a group email to my co-workers asking them deposit $15 into the DE Bank account and hit reply to the email if they want to join the co-op for the week. I usually get around 3 or 4 Eskimos joining each week (including myself).

Depending on the size of the co-op for the week, I usually get a $100 box on Thursday afternoon, which is delivered to the Igloo by Kurt from Knock Knock Organics http://knockknock.com.au/ on Friday morning.

Through Knock Knock I can add extra items like soy milk, eggs and coffee and I can tailor the box with specific items or extra fruit depending on what I need for the week. But mostly I like to just get what I'm given because I know it will be all the best stuff that's in season.

A seasonal box is not only a cheaper, tastier and more eco friendly way to shop and cook but it also means the produce is often a surprise making my meals at home more fun to cook and different every week.

When the box is delivered, I split the produce up evenly into smaller bags or boxes and put them on my co-worker's desks.

I think the main reasons why this co-op works in our office is because it's optional, convenient and it's a really cheap way to buy organically. There's also no money changing hands as it's all EFT.
