#193 Pancakes in the Park
For Neighbourhood Day we ran a free community pancakes event in the park. I made pancakes for over 100 adults nad 100 kids on the local bbq. A local growers group sold local produce, the local belly dancing group performed, a bushcare person had a display and kids activities (including native animal face painting), someone appeared with home made lemonade, a local band played and there were circus toys to play with.
The amazing thing about this event was that it happened organically. It took one or two people to say 'lets do it!' and the rest just happened. People I'd never met turned up on the day with hula hoops, balloons and other activities.
I watched as small children made friends, the local band got approached by the council to perform elsewhere and everyone went home covered in sticky pancake joy!
This was a very successful attempt at getting the community together under the banner of the local sustainability group to engage over some sustainability related activities.
In total, the event cost $70 and minimal effort!
