Some little steps to reducing our family's emissions... by Carmen, edited by Michael Chew
car
- We sold our older smaller car last last year and bought a larger station-wagon, which has excellent long drive fuel economy. This is more practical for longer trips, as lots of our family live rurally and in outer suburbs and we love camping;
the move
We then moved house closer to school, shops, public transport etc. so we could limit city use of our vehicle. We have limited car use to once or twice a week and are looking to only riding to school this year!
the car again
I still need to drive to work, which is awful, because public transport takes far too long, when I need to be at work at 9.30am and drop the kids off at 9. I am able to work from home whenever I don’t have meetings so that’s a great compromise.
I recently moved from one of the densest inner city communities to the burbs and the move has made me reflect on how place/geography determines our resilience.
Following a number of requests from mebers of the public, activists and social change leaders, I'm interested in hearing from anyone who'd be supportive of developing Live Local action groups in your neighbourhood?
